An impression from a past trip to France. I have been doing two different styles of applying the foreground poppies. This one is a bit more literal than the larger pieces I'm working on. I have a upcoming trip to the south of France and looking forward to capturing many of the views from the Rhone river.

"Truckee River Morning" Plein Air

Painted on a early Fall day on the Truckee river. Very cold morning and when I moved my easel the painting hit a over hanging limb and popped out of the easel face down....after a good 30 minutes I was able to remove the debris...Good fun.

"Mt Vernon Winery" Plein air

Painted on a Autumn day at Mt. Vernon Winery in Auburn. I caught this scene as the winery's Fall colors were just changing. The harvest was going on behind me in a field busy with activity. I used both palette knifes and brushes for this piece.

"Twin Peaks - Lake Tahoe" Small Plein Air Painting

I really enjoyed painting from this location on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. I have just completed another version of this in the 9"x12" format. The 9x12 was a plein air piece I was working on for the NLT Plein Air Open (http://www.northtahoearts.com/) in Lake Tahoe, but I decided to scrape it and redo it in the studio.This came out much how I had hoped, which is pretty rare....ha. I'll post the larger one next week after it is signed.

"North Lake Tahoe 2014 Plein Air Open"

"Pleasant Hill Farm" - Sold!

Painted on a summer day in the late afternoon at a small farm in Pleasant Hill. Painted with brushes and then with palette knifes for texture.

"Sunflowers in Provence Vase"

Sunflowers arranged in a favorite vase from Provence. I painted this with brushes and then let it set and then I went back at it with palette knifes for lots of texture. As they say "fat over lean". This would look very good in a black with gold trim plein air frame.

"Field in Provence"

Field in Provence on a spring day. Both palette knifes and brushwork used on this painting. I took a advanced class from Terry Miura a few months ago and regarding paths he likes to completely paint thru them and then reintroduce them back in. Seems an organic approach which I practiced on this particular piece.

"South Fork Yuba River - Spring"

This river runs along Hwy 80 heading over the pass to Truckee. The Spring snow melt can really bring this river up. I repainted this scene on a birch wood panel in a larger format. Great fun!

(This one is going to a gallery in Tahoe city in September unless sold before.)

"Runoff - South Yuba River"

Spring Run (last year) off the west slope of the Sierra Nevada range near the summit. This is the south fork of the Yuba river. Winter storms are just now arriving giving hope for similar scenes.
