Plein Air Maui - Kealia Pond

Plein air painting just outside of Kihei on the Kealia Pond. I did this 6" x 8" on Raymar panel and then did a 14" x 18" of it when I got back to California.

"Lake Tahoe - Summer Morning"

Painted on a summer morning into a glare from Sunnyside (west shore) looking east towards the Nevada shore. The clouds were building already by 10:00am.

"Still Life Study" Homage Piece

Still Life that was painted very loosely. I've been painting quite a bit lately going back and forth between using a palette knife and brush technique.

"Dixon Barn With Crows"

Now in late summer many of the fields have been cut hence the crows are out in abundance. I'm trying out some new palette knifes this week. I seem to be hard on the equipment. I painted another version of this on a larger format.

"Martis Valley - Lake Tahoe"

Leaving Truckee heading to Lake Tahoe there's a meadow with views towards the west I've always enjoyed. I have done several oils and watercolors from this location.

"Pleasant Hill Farm" - Plein air

Painted in the late afternoon at this great little farm in the middle of suburbia. I've painted here a few times, but never from this view.

"West Maui Impression"

Looking from Kihei to West Maui. There's so much color in those slopes in the mornings.

Foggy late spring day looking up the hills in Tilden park Berkeley. This is from a group of paintings I did from attending this years Bay Area Plein Air workshop with Bryan Mark Taylor. Good fun!

"Shoreline Summer Day"

Impressionistic view of our waterfront looking toward the town of Benicia. Palette knife technique. I did a 8"x10" with the Benicia Plein Air Group as well. I'll post that one as well.

"Pt. Lobos Fog"

A beautiful day looking toward Pt. Lobos from just outside of the village of Carmel. A typical day with fog coming back in the mid-afternoon.

Sunflowers - A Study

This was done using a palette knife with lots of thick texture. I've spent a few days painting several different Sunflower compositions. Good fun!

"South Fork American River" Plein Air

6" x 8" Oil on Raymar Plein Air panel. Painted two weeks ago just off Hwy 49 on a rare winter day that was full of sun! This is gold country and there was no lack of gold panners about. The river was running fast, and loud, during this painting.

"Provence Study"

5" x 7" oil on canvas panel. Quick study of a Provence lavender and wheat field. I've been out painting quite a bit, but haven't had much time to post.

"Winter Pears"

6" x 6" oil on board. I did at least 5 different pear paintings during a very cold winter day. This one was a favorite.

"Quiet Pond"

Winter pond plein air painting. 6" x 8" oil on Raymar plein air panel. I did this painting in 9x12 as well. I'm working on my photograph skills still. This came out (at least) a poor second to the real painting.

"Diablo - Before Storm"

Top painting I did indoors a couple of days after the Plein air study below. The small painting was just before a big storm blew in. I was holding onto the easel with a free hand half the time I was painting this. 6" x 8" oils on Blick canvas panels.
